Iasi
Iași, in north-eastern Romania, is the key historical and cultural centre of Moldavia. Set on the river Bahlui, the city has around 309 thousand inhabitants. It is known for its beautiful Orthodox churches, such as the Cathedral of St Parascheva, and for a rich history reaching back to the 14th century. Iași was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia and of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. The climate is temperate continental, and the best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are pleasant.
