    Sitia is a picturesque town on the north-eastern coast of Crete, on the Aegean Sea. It has around 9,348 inhabitants and is the seat of the municipality of the same name. The old Kazarma fortress, a relic of Venetian rule, is well worth a visit. Sitia is ideal for windsurfing enthusiasts, and its development as a tourist destination began in the 1980s. The average summer temperature is around 28°C, and the best time to visit is between May and October.
