Turku
Turku, in south-western Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, is the country's oldest city, with more than 197 thousand inhabitants. Once the capital of Finland, it is today the centre of the Varsinais-Suomi region. It is known for its Swedish cultural influences and its major port, which handles millions of passengers a year. The medieval cathedral and Turku Castle are well worth a visit. The climate is cool, with mild summers (around 20°C). The best time to come is summer, when the city is at its liveliest and hosts many festivals.
