Chile, in south-western South America, stretches some 4300 km between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. The country is home to more than 18 million people, and its capital is Santiago. You will find remarkably varied landscapes here, from the Atacama Desert in the north to the glaciers of the south. Chile has a rich history, and Spanish and Catholicism predominate. Average temperatures range from 0°C in winter to 30°C in summer. The best time to visit is spring or autumn.
