Norimberg
Nuremberg, set in Bavaria on the river Pegnitz, is the economic and cultural capital of Franconia. With a population of more than 518 thousand, it is the second largest city in the region. Historically important, it was a free imperial city and one of the greatest trading centres of medieval Europe. Rebuilt after the destruction of the Second World War, it attracts visitors with the Imperial Castle and its Gothic churches. It is best visited in spring or summer, when temperatures are mild.
